Great General Introductory Fitness Book for Women
This is a book I bought quite some time ago, but never got around to reviewing. I almost didn’t because Amazon isn’t selling the print version except through third party vendors anymore, but the kindle version is still available, and this happens to be, in my opinion, a well done book.I think this book is best suited for a woman who hasn’t worked out in a while, or has primarily been doing cardio and wants to add different things into their fitness regimen and wants useable, solid guidance on several different options, because it’s kind of a jack of many trades book. For me personally, my strength training routine is much more involved then this book is capable of benefiting, but even with where I’m at, I personally still find the Burpee Workout from Gaddour to be an awesome tool that allows me to take my workouts with me wherever I need to go when I can’t take my usual setup. The author provides a very nicely done burpee spectrum that allows this EMOM workout (every minute on the minute) to be adapted to all levels of fitness, and I have to say, Burpees do a body a whole lot of good. There is a section on nutrition in here with recipes, and while it is mostly geared towards the non-vegetarian set, I think it is well done.My only caveat is a caveat I have for the vast bulk of fitness books in general. The first focus is on hotness, though I am super happy they through that healthier part in there 🙂 I think the focus should be entirely on health, and it’s something I think the fitness industry in general could do better at selling. Because anybody who has a considerable amount of weight to loose and has seen any of the many fitness stories the news trots out, knows that there are some skin issues that no amount of these exercises are going to address, and nothing is going to deliver them the same level of society approved “hotness” that these fitness models possess short of expensive cosmetic surgeries, and abdominoplasty in particular has some definite risks. And for some people, if we’re talking about looks, they’d rather deal with the extra weight than the hanging skin. But health is entirely a different matter, and that ladies, is way more important than rocking an awesome looking tummy.

    Real life advice
For someone that works 3 jobs & doesn’t have the time to spend hours in the gym – this is a perfect book! After years of reading books written by people who are able to workout all the time (because its their job) I finally found a book that relates to the everyday woman (mom/accountant/salesperson/nurse- you name it).Shape-up Shortcuts starts by taking you through your kitchen and what you should be (& shouldn’t be) eating. The author also addresses that NEVER eating out isn’t and option- she tells you healthy swaps though.Packed with tons of exercises you can do in your home, after reading you will have no excuse to lose that extra weight and tone up.I can’t rave about this book enough.

    This one is a Buy
Shape-Up is a very accessible book, which is a nice change from most of the fitness stuff I’ve been reading recently. There are tips you can start using today as well as complete workout plans, so you can take things at your own pace. The book has a nice balance of nutritional and fitness content. Chapters are put together in a way that allows you to jump to whatever makes the most sense for your lifestyle. There’s also research and motivational segments throughout the book which are well done.

    A Must Read!
I bought this book for a friend who is a busy professional. With a crazy schedule and regular travel, she immediately put the tips from this book to work. In fact the book was such a hit in her house, that her 18 year old daughter could not put it down either. This is a great book for women of all ages and backgrounds looking to implement new ways to get fit or stay fit into their daily routines.

I have many workout books of all kinds and many diet books, most not so broad ranging as this. I also have a fitness magazine habit and an online health/fitness article habit – and I’ve never come across so many new ideas and really helpful tips in any single one of them let alone just ten minutes of reading. I’ve flicked through this now for an hour and am really impressed by information on the science of the body and fitness that pops up everywhere. I haven’t read any of the nutrition part yet as I’m not so interested in that part just yet.The book is very clearly laid out but has many boxes and lists and different page layouts that keep you interested, it’s full of surprises. I’ve turned many page corners as I know I’m keeping this book.
