BowFlex SelectTech 1090 Dumbbell (Single)

Excellent home gym product.
Not sure about the negative reviews, I think those can probably be attributed to the user rather than the product. I’ve had two of these 1090s and have used them religiously for many years without a single mishap. They’ve gotten me strong and bigger, and I never had an injury or a malfunction. Just take care of them. Don’t slam the dumbbells around (as I notice other people tend to do when they come over and wanna play around with these weights) , go gently and easy when you dial the weight, and don’t try to pick up more weight than you can properly handle, and these guys WILL hold together and last you a long time. The shape and size takes a little getting used to, especially if you’re accustomed to other dumbbells, but these are excellent and convenient pieces of equipment that will allow you to lift fairly heavy and they barely take up any space.They go up to 90lbs, which might not seem like much compared to heavy barbell lifting, especially once you get a good momentum of gains going, but if you get to the point where you’re lifting 90lbs on shoulder press and lunges, for reps, you’re going to have gained some serious size and strength. Only downside is, you can’t squat and deadlift with these, or really do much for lower body at all. Also, it’s pretty limited for back exercises other than dumbbell rows, so I’d recommend a hex/trap bar and pull-up bar for a more complete and smaller home gym (unless you’re going all out and getting a barbell set and squat rack). Also, you’ll need an adjustable inclined bench to use with these dumbbells (I bought the cheapest one i could find and it’s still holding up several years later). A little expensive for all this equipment, but worth it, and very convenient. (I spent $800 total over time for all the equipment I mentioned above and it’ll practically last you for life). Plus, you’re way more likely to stick to your work out routine if you can do it at home instead of traveling to the gym and dealing with that circus every day.

First impression out of the box…
– Bowflex brand name, been around a LONG time selling quality home workout gear, gyms, etc.- 1090’s offer 10 lbs all the way up to 90lbs, and this time (vs the home gyms) the resistance is actual weight. The box WEIGHS 90 plus pounds so have a plan to get the box into the house without getting hurt.- The stand is now something I think I NEED. I figured I would just lift off the floor, but as one reviewer said, its not the best idea for your back. I know I could use the shipping boxes for now, but i see the stand as worth it later on.- Solid feel overall. I read a lot about the grip being too rough, or too hard on the hands, but for me it’s not an issue yet. I have been lifting weights in gyms for 10-15 years, and my hands are used to dead lifts, shrugs, bench presses, and are not sensitive to this issue. I haven’t gone to 90lbs, but I will update once I do and see if theres an issue here for me. I have lifting gloves somewhere, and I guess thats a solution if it really bothers you.- Weight changes are easy enough. set both sides of the dumbbell, and lift off. Replace and set, lift off. easy changes.- Overall I’m pleased with what the product is so far. I have the bench to assemble, and then will get some workouts in and repost. But my initial impression was solid. I was really surprised how serious this dumbbells are, weight, construction, ease of use. I hope this continues as I get into my workouts at home!- Amazon delivered within 48 hours and FREE..and once you see these boxes and how big and heavy they are you’ll appreciate that prime membership!** Update after 1 week and 5 workouts. The grip does get tough on your hands if you go higher than 45lbs per hand. I’m going to be using my weight lifting gloves which I got off amazon years ago cheap for future lifts. On a positive note: these are GREAT adjustable weights. I love having such a variety of weights to change to when completing workouts with the Body Beast program.

Nur zur Info / die Hanteln kommen paarweise!Diese Info sollte übrigens im Header erwähnt werden, dann kommen auch keine 4 Stk. an und die Rücksendung wird für alle beteiligten vereinfacht.Das Patent lässt sich der Hersteller leiderzu gut bezahlen.Gerade bei “kleinen” Gewichten und im Allgemeinen sind die Scheiben etwas zu wuchtig (voluminös), für Flying-Curls etc.Ist aber nicht wirklich ein Manko, denn es gibt ja auch noch andere Übungen ; -)Wen der hohe Anschaffungspeis nicht abschreckt und gerne platzsparende Gewichte mit Schnelljustage möchte, der sollte sich dieses Produkt anschaffen.Oder die alternativen Hanteln mit ähnlicher Konstruktion genauer anschauen.Gut – sowas kauft man 1x (für zu Hause) und spart sich sowohl Platz, als auch mal den Gang ins Studio. – Gerade wenn es mal “zwangs”geschlossen “wurde” – ist…

Have used these heavily for about 4 years, both myself and my son in a weight room set up in part of the garage. Placed on a base with rollers so that they can be moved around the weight room easily. Weight room also has a hard rubber locking pad over cement floor for comfort so weights are protected from being placed directly on a cement floor. Both of us use these and am very happy with these. Only setback is when using them for some exercises the length of the bar is very long and some conscious effort is required to allow full range of motion. Not an issues, just have to watch style. For the range of weights and room that they free up this is a very small issue. Changing the weight is very easy and although we do not baby the weights we do not throw them around., Definitely recommend them.
